Seeking knowledge is obligatory on every Muslim
"Seeking knowledge is obligatory on every Muslim"
In Islam, seeking knowledge is highly emphasized. It is the duty of every Muslim, male or female, to seek knowledge throughout their life. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "Seeking knowledge is obligatory on every Muslim."
The Holy Prophet of Allah (S.A.W.) has said: "Atta libul ilm faridhatol kuli muslim." means: "Attainment of knowledge is must for every Muslim." The first guidance given to the mankind in the Qur'an was “Iqra” i.e. to read, recite or proclaim in Surah Alaq Chapter 96. Acquiring knowledge in Islam is not limited to religious studies, but encompasses all fields of study, including science, technology, and medicine. By seeking knowledge, Muslims can understand the world around them and use their knowledge to benefit society.
Furthermore, seeking knowledge is a means of getting closer to Allah, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever follows a path to seek knowledge, Allah will make the path to Jannah (Paradise) easy for them.” [Sahih Muslim 2699; Sunan Tirmidhi 2945]. This shows us the great excellence of the seekers of knowledge.
Therefore, it is crucial for every Muslim to make seeking knowledge a priority in their life. By doing so, they can fulfill their duty to Allah and benefit themselves and society.
